Carrie Underwood Applauds 'American Idol' Contestants for Singing Christian Worship Song

Carrie Underwood knows a thing or two about singing Christian worship tunes on big stages. Arguably her biggest hit song is "Jesus Take The Wheel." Consequently, she frequently argues that it's hard to maintain a strong sense of Christian faith while also pursuing a career in entertainment. Depending on how stringently you follow the Bible, it's almost antithetical. Still, Carrie unabashedly stands by her faith. Now, she's lauding future generations for trying to do the same.

Recently, American Idol contestants Breanna Nix and Rylie O'Neill perform Brandon Lake's worship song "Gratitude" as a duet. It's a mainstay within devout Christian music audiences and this was arguably the biggest stage to perform that kind of song. This didn't go unnoticed by Carrie Underwood, slowly tearing up and FaceTiming Brandon Lake during the performance. He ends up loving it, calling it "the most gorgeous version of 'Gratitude'" to date. The American Idol judge feels a similar sense of pride.

"Ladies, I want to tell you... I know how difficult it is to come into the entertainment industry and bring your faith with you. It is a brave thing to do, because there are a lot of outside forces that are going to tell you not to do that. I want to tell you that I'm proud of you guys," Carrie says.

It all plays out in a very heartwarming manner, especially for those with devout Christian beliefs. However, in an ironic, dramatic twist, only one of the two contestants could stay. Underwood and the other judges end up choosing Breanna Nix over her partner Rylie O'Neill. What a bizarre setup, to sing about your love and affection for your lord and savior Jesus Christ but in a competitive manner. Hopefully, the loser still takes what Carrie said to heart and doesn't get too discouraged by going home.
