Carrie Underwood Cringes Recalling Her First Date, Calling It The 'Worst' Ever

Carrie Underwood has been happily married to Mike Fisher since 2010. But before they tied the knot, Underwood had to endure a few terrible dates, including one when she was barely old enough to date.

"The worst date I ever had was actually probably my first date ever," Underwood recalls to WKML. "I was 16, and I was going out on a date with a guy who was a bit older. He might have been about 18. And he came in, and my dad actually had gotten out his shotguns earlier to start cleaning them. I don't know why he decided to clean them right before my first date, but he did. Mom made him put them up, though."

Unfortunately, the date only went downhill from there.

"But my date gets there, and we go out, and he really just didn't put that much thought into it," Underwood remembers. "Like, we just went to the mall and were gonna watch a movie. But I was 16 and couldn't get into any rated-R movies. So we ended up watching this horrible movie. We left halfway through, and he took me home, and that was that."

"Not a great first dating experience," she adds with a laugh.

Carrie Underwood and Mike Fisher's Family

Fortunately, her dating improved over the years. Underwood and Fisher met in 2008, at one of her shows, tying the knot two years later. They are also proud parents to their 9-year-old son, Isaiah, and Jacob, who is 6.

"I remember when we first found out we were gonna have [Isaiah], it [was] like, 'How are we gonna do this? Our lives are so crazy as it is,'" Underwood tells People. "But you just make room, and you learn how important that family time is, and to be able to spend time and carve out some of that and maybe get to go on vacation and maybe get to go on a cruise — that stuff is so important to, like I said, make time for family. That's what it's all about."

Underwood returns to American Idol next month. 20 years after she was crowned the Season 4 winner, Underwood will now serve as a judge for the upcoming season, alongside Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie. The show premiers on March 9 on ABC.
