The trailer for this year's American Idol was shared yesterday, and it shows a very teary Carrie Underwood.

The legendary singer has garnered a lot of online backlash after performing at Trump's inauguration. Many of her fans have turned their backs on her and boycotted her music. Their boycott extended to American Idol, where former fans stormed their socials to demand Underwood be let go from the season.
It seems American Idol has stood their ground, however, as the latest trailer they dropped shows Carrie Underwood firmly as a judge. The alum-turned-judge can relate the most to the contestants before her, making her sympathize more for them than any other judge.
Carrie Underwood Is Set To Be An Emotional Judge For 'American Idol' 2025
To exemplify this, a very brief snippet is shown of Underwood talking to an auditionist. She says, "I know you're nervous." It feels much more personal coming from her and her experience, however, as if she truly grasps how the contestant is feeling.
But that's not all. Later in the trailer, she can be seen crying as she sits with a contestant. This is also pretty brief, but enough can be gathered to know that they're crying together. It seems this contestant also has a sympathetic background, which has hit Underwood right in her feels.
All we can hear of the conversation, is "Even though this was about your son." This leaves a lot for the imagination. She later says, "Every single person can fill in that memory," which honestly confuses things.
Of course, we will have to tune in to see the heartbreaking motivation behind that auditionist. But we've got enough to go on to know that Underwood will be a very emotional judge in the series.
We only get a couple of scenes of Underwood in the American Idol trailer, but they prop her up to be a sympathetic, understanding, and emotional judge. If you're a fan of the sob stories and emotional journeys of the contestants, then this is some brilliant news.
Of course, many ex-fans won't be tuning in this year because of Carrie Underwood. In a weird twist, her supporting Trump signals to many that she is the polar opposite of the qualities she'll be displaying on the show.
