Carrie Underwood Plays Coy About Whether She Will Return For 'American Idol'

I think most people can agree that Carrie Underwood had a successful return to American Idol behind the desk. But will she do another season after this one?

If she chose not to do another season, she wouldn't be the first to make a single appearance. But, usually, when that's the case, it's because people hated the job. Ellen DeGeneres said that the one season of American Idol she did was "one of the worst decisions I've made." That's surprising, knowing how much she loves bullying people.

But Carrie Underwood seemed to have a good time during her time on American Idol, hinting that she may return. The paycheck is monstrous, it's only half a year of work, and she got on with all the other judges, it appears.

However, she was very dismissive when asked if she would be back. Entertainment Tonight popped the question during an interview, asking, "Will you be back?" "I don't know," she responded. "There's a lot to contemplate."

They followed up by asking, "Do you hope to be back?" But Carrie Underwood was avoidant with her response, saying she had "A lot of fun" shooting American Idol. That's an undecided response if I've ever heard one.

Will Carrie Underwood Return To 'American Idol'

By the sounds of it, Carrie Underwood has some decisions to make. Of course, the paycheck is a healthy one, and the work isn't exactly demanding. But, at the same time, it keeps her on the other side of the country from her family, and keeps her from her creative outlets.

It's all well and good being a judge on a show like American Idol when you're music career is mostly behind you, like Lionel Richie. But, when you're at the height of your musical career like Carrie Underwood, a return to American Idol will just cut further into the time she could be writing or touring.

If she spends too long on something like American Idol, the spotlight will move on. She will miss the time she could be touring, writing, and pressing records. Sure, the millions of dollars she gets for the work are great, but she risks slipping from musical relevance in the process.
