O'Hara's agency, CAA, had previously revealed in a statement to the Associated Press that she passed "following a brief illness." Now, various outlets have reported that O'Hara was in "serious condition" upon arriving at the hospital.
At around 4:48 a.m. on Friday, the Los Angeles Fire Department received a call for an anonymous female residing at O'Hara's residence. She was an "approximately 70-year-old" woman, says People. Details on the exact cause of O'Hara's death have not yet been disclosed, but many are led to assume to "70-year-old" woman was indeed O'Hara.
O'Hara became well respected as an actress through movies like Beetlejuice and Home Alone. However, she first got her start in comedy through performing with Second City Television. Born in Toronto, Canada, she was the second-youngest of seven children.
O'Hara is survived by her husband, Oscar nominee Bo Welch, and their two children, Matthew and Luke.

Following Catherine's passing, many of her Schitt's Creek costars have expressed their sympathies. Catherine starred as Moira Rose on the TV Series. Her performance as the character won her an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series in 2020.
Eugene Levy, who starred with Catherine in Schitt's Creek and also worked alongside her for several decades, shared a statement to People.
"Words seem inadequate to express the loss I feel today... I cherished our working relationship, but most of all our friendship. And I will miss her."
Highlighting their time on Schitt's Creek and on Canada's SCTV together, she shared, "I cherished our working relationship, but most of all our friendship."
Annie Murphy and Dan Levy, who played O'Hara's kids onscreen, also expressed sadness at her passing.
"Ha-ha-HAAAA?!?! Her laugh was a perpetual Yes, And..." Murphy wrote on Instagram. "It challenged anyone who heard it to join in, and be as delighted as she was. Gosh, were we ever lucky to have her. #goodbyetoagreatactress"
Dan Levy spoke highly of O'Hara, saying that it would be "hard to imagine a world without her in it." He wrote, "I will cherish every funny memory I was fortunate enough to make with her."
