Cause Of Death Revealed For 18-Year-Old College Football Player

Another heartbreaking loss to the community. 18-year-old Alex Foster died in his Mississippi hometown. The cause of death, as presented by the Associated Press, was a series of gunshot wounds. Initially, he was found in his car, but more information has been revealed on exactly how the scene might have unfolded. The outreach that his family has received is immense. And it just goes to show how much this young man had already touched his communities.

The Death Of A Football Player

As confirmed by the Greenville Police Department in Mississippi, there were shots fired at 12:11 am on Wednesday, May 28th. Obviously, officers responded to the shooting. When they arrived on the scene, they found someone. A male in his car who had been shot several times.

Afterwards, the victim was transferred to Delta Health Center. This is where he died 35 minutes later.

Sadly, the investigation is still ongoing, so no arrests have been made yet.

According to the Associated Press, the shooting was not isolated. It has been part of a "surge in violent crimes," as stated by the Greenville Mayor Errick D. Simmons.

The Response

After Foster's confirmed death, the organizations he played for immediately made statements.

Baylor Football, the program where Alex Foster played, posted this on X.

Within the text, they made sure to state that young Foster was "a beloved teammate, friend, and a cherished part of the Baylor Family." A beautiful sentiment, especially since Foster had only spent one year there before his death. As a redshirted freshman.

Coach Aranda even presented his own individual message on the media platform.

Once again, he made sure to mention that, "In his time at Baylor he made a long-lasting impact on all of us in the program." And, of course, he added, "Our hearts are broken, and our prayers are with his family, friends and all those who loved him so deeply." He speaks for all of us when he writes that. Nothing but love to the family of this victim.

Even his High School football coach moved to speak to the Clarion-Ledger. He told the outlet that Foster was a "Real quiet, soft-spoken guy, you know. Had his head on right and was wanting to make it out. He was a good dude, man."
