"They Were Our Best Friends": Children of Rob and Michele Singer Reiner Break Their Silence on Parents' Death

The deaths of director Rob Reiner, 78, and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, 68, rocked the entertainment industry and crushed all who knew them. But no one is feeling their stunning loss more acutely than their adult children, Jake and Romy. They are now breaking their silence about the incalculable anguish that the alleged murder of their parents has caused them. Both Reiners were discovered deceased in their Brentwood, California, home over the weekend. Their son, Nick, 32, Jake and Romy's brother, was arrested and charged with "two counts of first-degree murder," per ABC News. According to sources, it was Romy came upon them dead at their residence on Sunday.

What Jake and Romy Reiner Said About Their Beloved Parents

A family spokesperson issued the following statement from Jake and Romy Reiner on Wednesday, December 17. "Words cannot even begin to describe the unimaginable pain we are experiencing every moment of the day. The horrific and devastating loss of our parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, is something that no one should ever experience. They weren't just our parents; they were our best friends."

Rob and Michele Reiner's children's statement went on, "We are grateful for the outpouring of condolences, kindness, and support we have received not only from family and friends but people from all walks of life. We now ask for respect and privacy, for speculation to be tempered with compassion and humanity, and for our parents to be remembered for the incredible lives they lived and the love they gave."

The Reiners Were Held in the Highest Esteem

Celebrities throughout Hollywood have praised Rob and Michele Reiner. They were generous, passionately dedicated to making the world a better place, and creatively brilliant. The stars who offered emotional tributes to them in the past few days reads like a who's who of show business, Per Us Weekly, well-known figures who have honored the Reiners include Ben Stiller, Kathy Bates, John Cusack, Christopher Guest and his wife, Jamie Lee Curtis, Jerry O'Connell, and many more A-listers.

Some of the most heartfelt comments came from comedian Jerry Seinfeld. His sitcom became a cultural touchstone - and behind the scenes, Rob Reiner had a lot to do with it. Seinfeld posted on Instagram, "Next to Larry David and George Shapiro, Rob Reiner had the biggest influence on my career. Our show would have never happened without him. He saw something no one else could. When nobody at the network liked the early episodes, he saved us from cancellation...Their death, together, is impossibly sad."
