I'm sure everyone will remember his incredible performance of the national anthem at the Super Bowl. It was truly one of the best, rivaling even Whitney Houston's rendition. He has recently shared, however, that he'll never sing it again.
Although that's shocking to hear considering just how amazing he was, it isn't that surprising. Singing the national anthem live has got to be one of the most pressuring acts imaginable. It's not exactly a feat you can screw up or do halfheartedly.
The pressure was on, and although Stapleton aced it, he felt it.
He recently sat down with Dale Earnhardt Jr. on the Dirty Mo Media podcast a few days ago to talk about his career in the music industry. There, they spoke of his legendary Super Bowl performance, and why he won't do it again.
Chris Stapleton Explains Why He Won't Perform The National Anthem Again
Chris Stapleton explained that there was so much pressure on the event. He also attributed the success of the incredible take on the cast and crew involved in making it perfect. Stapleton doesn't reckon he'll ever be able to top that, so it seems he's steering clear of the event so not to tarnish the legacy of his first performance.
He said, "I don't get nervous to play, necessarily. That one, I was like 'I'm gonna make sure I'm as prepared as I can be for this.' I would have people ask me to sing the National Anthem for various things, and I jokingly always said, 'No, I'll just do it when it's time to do it at the Super Bowl,' you know."
He went on to explain that he now says he's "officially retired" from singing the national anthem. He then also credited the crew, "all the TV editing that they did while I was doing it was just spot on."
"Everything that they did to make that moment feel as big and nice as it could, they did it. And they executed flawlessly."
He called the event "genuinely nerve-wracking," making it understandable that he isn't in a particular rush to do it again.
