Cody Johnson has explained that he really doesn't do well with tequila, and his latest single "She Hurts Like Tequila" now makes perfect sense.

The song is all about a girl who he can't get enough of, yet she hurts him in the process. Apparently, this is much like his relationship with tequila.
The country singer collaborated with Carin Leon on the song, and they both got together to talk about tequila to promote their new track. In a clip shared on his Instagram, he spills about how he handles the iconic party drink.
"Tequila hurts me," Cody Johnson starts off with, before explaining that if he is to drink it, he prefers sipping more expensive brands, like Don Julio 1942. He takes his time with the beverage that hurts him. Now I understand the parallel perfectly.
He also prefers to use that brand of tequila in his margheritas.
However, he also likes to get down and party, and wouldn't want to waste any of the good stuff.
"But if you're gonna do shots, you may as well grab the cheapest tequila you can and just shoot it," he admits.
Talkin' Tequila
I find it hilarious that he clearly has intimate plans and ideas for enjoying tequila, despite claiming it "hurts" him. A classic toxic relationship if I ever have heard of one.
Although, to be fair, he doesn't exactly go into detail of how it hurts him. Is this emotional damage? Or acid reflux? The details are important here.
After Cody Johnson exposes every way in which he enjoys the drink that hurts him, Carin Leon admits that he just drinks it "straight from the bottle."
This is something that Cody Johnson apparently respects him for as he jokingly bows down to Leon for his bravery.
"I would pass out," he laughs. "I'm super Irish, so if I have too much tequila, I get a lil' wild."
I don't think tequila is a toxic relationship CoJo will be escaping anytime soon. He even admits this in his song, and after watching the video, I feel like I understand the tune more intimately.
