Johnson shares his thoughts on the career accomplishment on social media.

"I'm incredibly grateful to country radio for making 'I'm Gonna Love You" my fourth #1 single!" Johnson writes. "Sharing this milestone with the amazing Carrie Underwood makes it even more meaningful."

Johnson goes on to thank the three writers, Chris Stevens, Kelly Archer and Travis Denning, for "writing this incredible song that I get to sing with the best fans in the world every night on tour."

The Story Behind "I'm Gonna Love You"

Johnson and Underwood recorded the song in time for his original Leather album, but waited to release it on his Leather Deluxe record.

"The issue is, when you're dealing with an artist of that caliber; you have to be very respectful of their time," Johnson says (via iHeartCountry). "You have to be respectful of their tour when they're releasing an album when they're releasing a single ... Carrie was so gracious to work with. I respect her so much as a vocalist and an artist. I think a lot of newer artists would have got that [collaborations]. and said, 'Look, I have a duet with Carrie Underwood! Look, look, look!'

Denning first pitched "I'm Gonna Love You" to Underwood, for her to sing either with him or by herself. It wasn't the right time for her then. But when Johnson repitched the song a few years later, she was more than ready, which is fortunate for Johnson, since he didn't want to sing it with anyone else but Underwood.

"So, I get the song and as soon as I hear it, I went 'Carrie Underwood,'" Johnson recalls. "And they're like, 'Well, what about this person, what about this person.' I'm like, 'Nope, it's Carrie Underwood.' So then, once Carrie and I are in the studio, she's like, 'You know, I had this song. This is the second time it's come into my life' and I'm like, 'Well, that's if that's not meant to be. I don't know what is'."
