"I've been married 15 years ... You have to intentionally learn how to be romantic," Johnson tells Coyote Country. "Because a lot of the times guys like me, you think you're being romantic, and she's just going, 'Jesus.'"

One thing Johnson has learned over the years is that, at least for Brandi, simple gestures are often the best.

"I've had to really with my wife in particular, really learn her," Johnson explains. "Like what I think might be romantic isn't, but do the things that she thinks is romantic. Like something as simple as, 'Hey, I ran your bathwater.' 'What?' 'Yeah, I ran your bath water.' Oh, I just got points. Something simple. My wife's very simple."

Cody Johnson Prioritizes Family

Johnson might be a country music superstar by now, but he still makes sure his family comes first.

"I go home and flip the switch off," Johnson tells CT40. "I mean, "I'm not Cody Johnson the singer. I'm the rancher, the husband, the dad. I take my kids hunting and fishing and all that."

Johnson prioritizes his family. But even he admits that his job in country music is a close second to being a husband and father.

"Country songs are what I live for. Besides Brandi, besides our two beautiful daughters, it's the only thing in life for me that's a constant. It's in my blood. It's in my DNA. I wake up with it every day in the forefront of my mind, trying to make country music that means something."

Johnson won Album of the Year at the recent CMA Awards, for Leather. It's a trophy he likely would not have taken home without Brandi.

"If it wasn't for Brandi, I wouldn't be here," Johnson quipped backstage. "I'm being dead serious when I say that if it weren't for Brandi, I would probably be dead or in jail."

"She's the woman that encouraged me to be the man I am as a husband, as a father, as a CEO of a company, as a leader," he added. "I owe everything I have to that woman."
