Police Officer and Father of 2 Dies From Deadly Brain Infection

The death of a police officer is tragic. The men and women in blue put their lives on the line for all of us every day. Law enforcement professionals reflexively rush toward danger when the rest of us flee from it. Officer Cody Siebert was a genuine hero to many who did not die in the line of duty. Rather, he succumbed to a brain infection that evidently spread very quickly. Officer Siebert leaves a partner in mourning and two beloved youngsters, ages 2 and 1. His fellow officers feel his loss deeply.

The Police Department in Which Officer Siebert Served Is Grieving

One day after Officer Siebert's passing on February 27, the East Range, Minnesota, Police Department shared their thoughts about their esteemed fallen colleague. They will keep going in his absence, but with profound sadness for him always. Office Siebert not only kept the peace, he also touched people's lives in a special way they will not ever forget. His life ended far too shockingly and way too soon.

A sorrowful post they placed on

Facebook read, "It is with an extremely heavy heart we have to post this. Sgt Siebert passed away 2/27/2026, less than 24 hours after being diagnosed with a brain infection. His passing was unexpected for everyone."

It continued, " Sgt Siebert was well known for his happy-go lucky personality. It was best said that if you couldn't get along with Cody, it was your fault. Sgt Siebert started the K9 program in Babbitt with K9 Taconite (Tac) before coming to East Range Police Department with K9 Tac. The hole left by Sgt Siebert's passing will be impossible to fill. We at ERPD love you and will miss you always. We have it from here."

A GoFundMe Campaign Has Been Started in His Memory

It reads in part, "Cody was a devoted father, a loving partner, and a proud K9 Police Officer with the East Range Police Department. To know Cody was to have a friend. He had a rare gift for connection—if you crossed paths with him, you knew you were in for a genuine conversation. He truly enjoyed people, and his absence leaves a void in our community that will be felt by many."

The tribute went on, "While Cody dedicated his career to protecting our community, his greatest pride and joy were found at home. He leaves behind his significant other, Karen, and their two young sons: Reese (2 years old) and Bayne (1 year old). ?As Karen and the boys begin to navigate a future that looks very different than the one they imagined, we are reaching out to the community Cody loved so much."
