The incident occurred Friday in Burbank, California, during a traffic stop, the Burbank Police Department says. Rodriguez was a passenger in the vehicle.

Authorities pulled over the car around 7:30 p.m. for vehicle code violations, officials told Fox News Digital. During the stop, officers discovered narcotics. They arrested Rodriguez and booked him at Burbank Police Jail for possession. He was later released with a citation to appear in court on April 25.

Rodriguez's attorney, Bobby Samini, swiftly denied the allegations. In a statement to Fox News Digital, Samini called the charges "false and lack foundation." He emphasized that Rodriguez fully cooperated with police during the encounter.

Samini clarified that law enforcement accused the driver -- not Rodriguez -- of possessing a controlled substance.

"Mr. Rodriguez did not have any controlled substance in his possession, nor was he under the influence," the lawyer stated. He further alleged that the arrest violated Rodriguez's civil rights, adding, "We look forward to proving his innocence in court."

Comedian Awaits Court Date

The Burbank Police Department provided a straightforward account. "Officers conducted a traffic stop and located narcotics during the investigation," officials said. They confirmed Rodriguez's arrest but offered no additional details on the substances involved.

Rodriguez, a Los Angeles native, has built a decades-long career in entertainment. Known for his sharp stand-up comedy, he also boasts an extensive acting resume. He starred in films like Born in East L.A., Tortilla Soup, and Blood Work. Rodriguez lent his voice to Chico in Beverly Hills Chihuahua, charming audiences in the family-friendly hit. His television credits span numerous shows, cementing his status as a versatile performer.

The arrest marks a rare controversy for the comedy legend. Samini's defense signals a forthcoming legal battle, with Rodriguez's team prepared to challenge the charges head-on. The April 25 court date looms as the next step in resolving the case.
