Huge Recall Issued for Corn Dogs Possibly Contaminated With Wood Pieces

Millions of pounds of corn dogs - 58 million pounds to be precise - have been recalled because they are possibly contaminated by wood pieces in the batter, per ABC News. Per the outlet, "According to a Saturday notice published by the Agriculture Department's Food Safety and Inspection Service, the recall covers select 'State Fair Corn Dogs on a Stick' and 'Jimmy Dean Pancakes & Sausage on a Stick' products from Texas-based Hillshire Brands...." Hillshire is owned by Tyson Foods. Tyson said that the affected products only came from one plant in Haltom City, Texas.

The recall ensued because Hillshire heard from consumers about hazardous problems with these products. Those complaints included five injury reports. According to Tyson, a "limited number" of these food items in question contain "extraneous pieces of wooden stick within the batter." The company issued the recall to be on the safe side.

Contamination of food can come from particles or pieces of wood, plastic, metal, glass, or rubber, as well as bacteria.

The Products Were Manufactured Between March and September 2025

According to the recall notice from the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), the items in question were produced "between March 17, 2025, and September 26, 2025." This document HERE details the products affected. There is also a label list with photos HERE.

People May Still Have the Products Stored in Their Freezers or Fridges

Consumers are being told not to eat these items. They should discard them or return them to the establishment where they were bought. It is uncertain at this time if consumers will be able to obtain a refund. Schools and other institutions may still have these foods on hand. The recall notice states that "[t[hese items were sold online and shipped to retail and food service locations nationwide. They were also sold to school districts and Department of Defense facilities nationwide."
