Kris Kristofferson (June 22, 1936 - September 28, 2024)

Age 88

Kris Kristofferson wore so many hats, and wore them well. He was an exceptional actor, singer, and songwriter. Those terse labels don't come close to conveying the depth and breadth of his many talents. If you saw the 1976 version of A Star Is Born co-starring Barbra Streisand, which was the third cinematic iteration of this classic story about a newcomer whose singing career is on the rise, while her beau (Kristofferson) dissipates into an ornery, hungover has-been, then you know the sheer power of Krisofferson's acting ability, That skill was matched by his equal flair for music. A member of the Country Music Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame, he wrote a bunch of fabulous tunes we all recall and love like "Why Me," "Me And Bobby McGee," and "Help Me Make It Through The Night." Kristofferson's pal, Willie Nelson, told the Associated Press via pennlive.com, "I hated to lose him." We hated to lose him, too.

Toby Keith (July 8, 1961 - February 5, 2024)

Age 62

Toby Keith left us way too soon. He packed plenty into his 62 years, though. Per his web site bio, "Keith amassed 42 top 10 hits, 33 No. 1s, more than 44 million albums sold, 100 million BMI performances, and more than 10 billion streams largely on the strength of his own songwriting and producing, and under the banner of his own Show Dog Nashville record label." His hits included "Red Solo Cup," "Courtesy Of The Red, White, And Blue," and "Should've Been A Cowboy." Furthermore, Keith is in the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame, the Country Music Hall of Fame, the Songwriters Hall of Fame, and he received the National Medal of Arts. Per the outlet, "Triple threat? (Singer, entertainer, and songwriter) How about singer, songwriter, musician, producer, entertainer, entrepreneur, humanitarian, Oklahoman and patriot."
