Cracker Barrel Backpedals After Modern Revamp Flops: "We're Suspending Our Remodels"

Cracker Barrel goofed. That is just about the only way to interpret their wrong-headed push to modernize their longtime formula for success. The restaurant chain always relied upon traditional values, food, and comfy-looking decor. Per Whiskey Riff, the top brass is now backpedaling on the controversial campaign to streamline the eatery. Their efforts evidently infuriated customers instead of retaining them and luring new ones.

According to the outlet, "There was national backlash when they removed the 'old timer' from their iconic logo and going with a much more simple, minimalist look." They nixed the barrel in the logo, too. So what was left was a bland, uninspiring logo that no longer conveyed the Cracker Barrel brand anywhere near as well. The chain is reportedly reviving the former logo. But there were loud gripes about other issues, too.

The New, More Contemporary Ambiance Was Not Welcomed by Patrons

As the outlet put it, Cracker Barrel ditched its "vintage, cozy look and turn[ed] it into a gray, sterile looking place...." Customers were not impressed. What made Cracker Barrel unique and popular was suddenly gutted. They pushed back hard and the execs responded.

Cracker Barrel's Powers-That-Be Are Dialing Back the Changes

They added, "With our recent announcement that our 'Old Timer' logo will remain, along with our bigger focus in the kitchen and on your plate, we hope that today's step reinforces that we hear you."

There Is Still Plenty of Public Anger

Many vented their wrath online. They have not gotten over what they see as tampering with a much-loved place.

Wrote one, "Fire your CEO or we aren't coming back...the only way to get us back is to kick her to the curb...your choice!"

Another was more lenient. "I know we all want the CEO fired but she did listen to her customers. I think that should count for something."

Others remain stewing and are not placated yet. "Until you address this, I'll never patronize your establishment again."
