Dad Builds Ice Skating Rink In Backyard
Chris Filiaggi might just win the dad of the year award. Almost 10 years ago, when his 5-year-old son told him he wanted to practice ice hockey, this dad had an idea. Working together with his neighbors, Filiaggi constructed the ice rink in his backyard.
He told WTAE, "It's Filiaggi Pond." The dad builds the ice skating rink in his backyard every year using the same materials. They started with some "2x12s and we [ meaning Filiaggi and his neighbors] made a rink."
The ice rink has proven to be very useful as Filiaggi's then 5-year-old son is now 14 and playing for the Pittsburgh Penguins Elite Hockey team. Furthermore, it is not just Filiaggi's children that enjoy the ice rink, various neighborhood kids enjoy it as well.
The dad told the outlet, "When I come home from work some nights, I come back and there's 10 kids out here, and I'm like, 'What's going on here?' They just seem to migrate to our house."
Additionally, the rink has over 10,000 lights and a fire pit to help parents keep warm. With an incredible set up like this, it is no wonder that it is a neighborhood hotspot. The rink attracts kids ages 4 to 14 and everyone always has a great time.
Various kids spoke to the outlet about how much they love the ice rink. Similarly, the dad who builds the ice rink in his backyard loves it just as much. He said, "I love it. It's my favorite thing I do." Filiaggi continued, "This brings excitement for them, and happiness and joy, and they're home, and I love having them in my backyard."
