Health authorities are warning customers as a popular kebab chain has been linked to an outbreak of E. coli. As reported by KTLA 5, The Kebab Shop has locations in three states.
The California Department of Public Health was the first to ring alarm bells about the incident. The Kebab Shop has voluntarily paused its sale of the grilled beef kofta in response to its warnings.
The Kebab Shop has locations in three states. It has the most locations in California, although there are also places in Texas and Florida.
The department reported that the illnesses occurred from March 27 through April 30. The number of infections is reported to be at least nine, including six children. However, this is not a 100% definitive number, as some people could have had milder infections.
The E. coli infections have led to some more serious illnesses, too. Five people have been hospitalized, and two people have developed hemolytic uremic syndrome.
The syndrome can cause blood clots throughout the body, as well as contribute to kidney failure.
The CDPH and other authorities are still investigating the cause of the outbreak.

The Kebab Shop Has Released a Statement About the Outbreak
The Kebab Shop has released a statement on its website about the outbreak. They also released a timeline of the events and what they are doing to contain it.
They said, "We take seriously the responsibility to earn and maintain your trust. So, we want to share these details."
They went on to explain some of the finer details about the situation. They were quick to emphasise that the only affected item was the beef kofta, and that "all other proteins... are not associated with this issue."
The Kebab Shop also added that "TKS restaurants inspected as part of the CDPH's investigation confirmed their compliance with all health and safety regulations."
The CDPH has also advised any consumers who had gotten ill within 10 days of consuming the affected beef koftas to contact their local healthcare provider, citing the ongoing investigation.
We hope that this situation is dealt with effectively, and everyone is okay.
