Deceased Country Star’s Wife Wins Latest Legal Battle Against His Family

Kellie Pickler has won her latest legal battle against Kyle Jacobs' family as the bitter dispute over his property continues

Since country singer Kyle Jacobs passed away in 2023, his wife, Kellie Pickler, and his parents have been stuck in a legal battle over some of his property. According to US Weekly, Pickler has won the latest round in court, with a judge dismissing a subpoena for a list of his personal items.

That list included:

  • A significant gun collection
  • Multiple expensive watches, cufflinks, and jewelry
  • Electronic devices
  • Electric guitars and a piano
  • And some awards, personal items, and collectables from his younger years

"They are not papers for inspection or copying that can be easily supplied to counsel or transported to the location listed in the subpoena," the Tennessee judge said. "Rather, they are numerous and, in some instances, large/heavy items of tangible personal property."

Jacobs' parents, Reed and Sharon, initially took control of his estate following his passing. That decision was made after Pickler opted against operating as the administrator. Nevertheless, Reed and Sharon will face an uphill battle if they want to obtain some of their late son's belongings.

The legal battle is currently ongoing. Therefore, further subpoenas are likely in the works (though nothing has been announced to the public yet), and more dates in court will await everyone involved.

Kellie Pickler Accused of Being Callous

As with any legal battle, things between Pickler and Jacob's parent have become fraught. In a recent filing, Reed and Sharon accused Pickler of being callous in her methods throughout the legal process.

"[Reed and Sharon] are the proud parents of a son who grew into a highly successful ... songwriter ... who tragically took his life at a young age," the filing read "To suggest that his parents' actions here could be perceived as anything other than an effort to bring his sad chapter (the probate process) to a speedy close is shockingly callous and lacking in empathy."

Perhaps that's why the Tennessee judge questioned the motives behind Reed and Sharon's latest subpoena.

"The court is unclear about [Reed and Sharon's] expectations regarding the subpoena. It appears that [Reed and Sharon] may have expected that issuing the subpoena would cause [Pickler] to simply turn the requested items over to them."

Neither side appears willing to give ground in this court battle. Hopefully, they will eventually move past their current legal battle and begin to remember Jacobs for all that he accomplished, rather than what he's left behind.
