Vivian Campbell, lead guitarist of Def Leppard, had to miss out on the band's first concert of 2025 for a heartbreaking, yet hopeful, reason.

On January 18, Def Leppard performed in Leon, Mexico, although Vivian Campbell, 62, did not play. In his stead was John Zocco, Phil Collen's guitar tech. To their Instagram, the band explained why through a statement from Campbell himself.

Although the reason for his absence is a concerning matter, Campbell himself remains positive and upbeat. The statement starts, "Thank you for all the recent messages and support. As you all may know, I was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma several years ago."

Vivian Campbell was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma in June 2013, over a decade ago. It's been a long journey for him, but his battle with cancer is not keeping him down.

He continued, writing, "I recently had a bone marrow transplant as part of my treatment plan, and it's safe to say that thus far it's been a very successful transplant!"

"I just have to keep my head down and my spirits up for the next 100 days of primary recovery," he concludes.

Campbell's transparency here is a relief to all fans. I hope he recovers well from the transplant and remains in high spirits.

Fans Show Vivian Campbell Love And Support Following Treatment

People flocked to the comments to share their support toward the recovering guitarist.

"We love you so much viv, we are so glad you're doing better," one kindly wrote.

"You got this, Viv!" another encourages.

"Good to hear that the treatment went well. Rest up and get well! Saw you and the rest of the guys last summer and it was the thrill of a lifetime!" wishes well another.

"I am so happy to hear you are healing well Viv! Abundant blessings to you!" exclaims another fan, echoing the thoughts of many.

"Oh my gosh, thank freaking goodness!!! Glad to hear Vivian is doing well!" writes one more.

Def Leppard are slated to perform again on May 15 in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Let's hope Campbell is rested and recovered enough to join his bandmates on the stage. It would be a shame for him to miss out on another performance, although it would be completely understandable if he had to.
