It was Popovic's son, Vince, who made the announcement on Instagram on Sunday, Dec. 14. The cause of death has not yet been made public.

"Thank you for always being there for me, for always believing in me, being there for the family, guiding us in the right direction, always teaching us to do what makes us happy," wrote Vince. "You were and still are my first best friend. You made me a better person."

Donnie Wahlberg Paid Tribute to Popovic

Wahlberg, a member of New Kids on the Block and star of Boston Blue, responded after the announcement by posting a carousel of photos of himself and Popovic on Instagram. He also wrote the following caption:

"Gonna miss you my guy. A lot. You were always a real friend and a true brother. I know for certain that you're in a better place. I know that with all my heart. Doesn't make it any easier to know that you won't be here any longer, but it will ease the sorrow until I see you again. Love you Vic. Rest Peacefully. Matthew 11:28 Proverbs 17:17 Happy Eternal Birthday!"

New Kids on the Block Also Issued a Statement

Popovic started on New Kids on the Block's security team before becoming their tour manager. He also built a decades-long career in tour management and venue security.

The boy band, which includes Wahlberg, Jonathan Knight, Jordan Knight, Joey McIntyre and Danny Wood, shared a statement on its Instagram page mourning the loss of its friend.

"We are heartbroken by the unexpected loss of our dear friend Vic Popovic," the statement reads. "Vic was more than a tour manager but a member of the family. We were lucky to have him by our side for many years and his humor, dedication and spirit brought so much joy to our days on the road and beyond. Our hearts and prayers are with his family and loved ones. We will miss him dearly."
