While Blue Bloods ended its 14-season run in December, Wahlberg recently suggested that Tom Selleck's iconic character could still return, this time in the upcoming spinoff Boston Blue.

"New York and Boston are really close," Wahlberg told Parade when asked about the possibility of Selleck reprising his role. "It's not that far apart," he added, with a grin that left the door wide open.

CBS has already ordered Boston Blue straight to series. The drama will follow Wahlberg's character, Danny Reagan, as he leaves the NYPD to join the Boston Police Department. There, he partners with detective Lena Peters, played by The Walking Dead star Sonequa Martin-Green. According to Wahlberg, Martin-Green is not just his new co-star, she's a dedicated Blue Bloods fan.

"She wants to keep that legacy alive as well," he said.

Keeping The Spirit Alive

Wahlberg emphasized that the spinoff will retain the emotional depth and family themes that made Blue Bloods a long-running hit. "It's really fun letting Danny be a fish out of water," he said. "But it's also important to remember where he comes from."

He stressed that the heart of the show of honor, loyalty, and family remains front and center. "We're keeping all of that at the forefront of our thoughts as we build this thing."

Although CBS has not confirmed whether Selleck will appear, Wahlberg's comments make it clear the door is open. The Reagan family dynamic was a core part of the original series, and fans continue to hope that Frank Reagan isn't done yet.

Selleck Remains Vocal

Selleck, 80, has not hidden his frustration over Blue Bloods ending. After CBS announced the cancellation last November, the veteran actor said he hoped the network would "come to their senses."

"We're still winning the night," Selleck told CBS News. "We're the third-highest scripted show on broadcast. All the cast wants to come back."

He later told TV Insider that Blue Bloods had been "taken for granted" because it delivered steady ratings from day one.

Boston Blue is set to premiere this fall on CBS. Whether or not Selleck joins the spinoff, fans can expect the Reagan name to live on.
