The Valentine's Day release of Some Sexy Songs 4 U has been almost a year in the making. In that time though, Drake hasn't been out of the public eye. Kendrick Lamar ensured that everyone kept talking about the Canadian rapper all the way through that year.
His new album has been well-received by people who like the kind of drivel Drake releases. It has a relatively eclectic sound, introducing a Mexican twang to tracks like "Meet Your Pradré." But, what's got people really talking about Drake going country is the "Die Trying" track.
In the wake of Beyoncé's success with Cowboy Carter, fans now want a Drake country album.
Drake Goes Country
People flocked to social media to voice their desires to see a crossover. "''Die Trying' is why if Drake makes a country/alternative album I will 100% tuned in. This is the greatest artist who ever lived and ima stand by that til I'm 6 feet under. I feel blessed to have experienced him in real time since '09," one X user gushes.
There have been a few collabs and crossovers in the country music genre, so Drake could certainly find a foothold. Another user writes of their dream team. "drake x shaboozey doing numbers," they write.
Although many country fans will argue that other artists need to stay in their lane, the numbers can't lie. Although Beyoncé may have been snubbed at the CMA's, she still took home a Grammy. Even the singer herself claimed Cowboy Carter wasn't a country album, but her fans disagreed.
Her success in the genre may pave the way for a country music-themed album release from Drake. At the very least he could appease his fans with a single or collaboration.
Not everyone agrees though. "'Die Trying' is not even close to country man what are y'all talking about," another user comments. There's always a Puritan in the mix somewhere.
