Ella Langley Describes This Song of Hers as “Annoyingly Honest”

Ella Langley is known for being vulnerable with her songwriting, but, there's one song she finds "annoyingly honest," even for her.

Ella Langley has become one of country music's hottest stars. From "You Look Like You Love Me" to "Choosin' Texas", this ACM winner has created quite a discography for herself. But, she admitted in a recent interview that, no matter how many hits she puts out, there's always one song that she just can't stop playing at her shows.

For her, that's "Girl You're Taking Home," which, although a heavy hitter, is a favorite amongst her fans. She revealed that she thinks it's because the song brings so much honesty to the table, and her fans "really like that" about her music.

Langley describes her song "Girl You're Taking Home" as "annoyingly honest." She told Backstage Country, "I have to sing it all the time. And at a point, I felt that way, the way I work through the things in my life is I write songs about it, and share all my deepest, darkest secrets with the world. It's really fun. There's a couple things I keep hittin' in there."

At First, Langley Didn't Even Want To Write "Girl You're Taking Home"

If you've ever heard the song for yourself, it gives a pretty real perspective on comparison, especially the kind that happens when your ex moves on to a new person. Langley shared that when she wrote it, she was dealing with those emotions so intensely that she almost didn't end up writing the song. The singer was actually on a writer's retreat when inspiration struck, and it was her co-writer, Joybeth Taylor, who helped drag it out of her.

"So I was in my bed the night before. We got there, flew in, and we kind of got in late," she shared. "And I was having some snackies. I remember I was eating a whole bunch of Starbursts, and they're all over my chest. And she came in the room, and she's like, 'I'm tired of this.' I was like, 'Me too.' And she's, 'We're going to write a song and get you over this guy.'" Apparently, Taylor and Langley agreed that she would wake her up the next morning with a title in mind.

And sure enough, at 7 a.m. the next day, Taylor brought the idea of "Girl You're Taking Home" to Langley, who said she knew "exactly how [the song was] gonna go." After that, the rest was history.

Heartbreak sucks, but since it gave her a song like this one, it seems like things worked out in Ella Langley's favor.
