Elle King Launches New Song Inspired By Dolly Parton Tribute Controversy

Following her less-than-stellar performance at a Dolly Parton tribute show at the Grand Ole Pry, Elle King has shared a new song with her fans in which she states she is now "banned from the Grand Ole Opry." While it is yet to be confirmed whether King was, indeed, banned from the venue, it surely is a way to remember the regrettable performance, where King was seen slurring her words in a profanity-filled drunken state.

King shared a clip of the song to her Instagram audience, captioning the video "Bannes from The Grand Ole Opry" and saying that she loves both Dolly Parton and the Opry in the video description.

"Cup or two, three, floor / How many martinis more until the curtain call / Brother could you help me please / Probably shoulda stuck to weed / Or maybe nothin' at all / Things got outta hand /Now I'm banned from the Grand Ole Opry," King starts singing.

King's fans were delighted to hear the song, especially after King did a complete 180. Since her incident, she quit alcohol, released new music, and now appears to laugh at the whole thing.

"All of us have made mistakes in our lives. I love your heart Lead by example your a bright light to so many," American Picker's Mike Wolfe commented. "Gorgeous. Love your voice. Your charisma! I hope your pregnancy is going well," one user wrote. A second user said: "What a way to make lemonade out of lemons girlfriend!!"

The Grand Ole Pry Controversy

Back in January, Elle King performed at the Grand Ole Opry and paid a controversial tribute to legend Dolly Parton. While performing "Marry Me," King delivered a slurred and pitchy performance. It would get worse as she would also deliver some profanity, stating that she was "drunk as sh*t."

It is not a surprise that, following her disastrous performance, many users online reacted negatively. King received an insurmountable amount of backlash shortly after. Elle King, subsequently, canceled all of her scheduled shows and entered a "therapeutic program."

"After everything that happened in January, I went to a different type of therapeutic program because I was very sad, and nobody really knows what I was going through behind closed doors," King said at the time.

Parton, in a class-act fashion, addressed King's incident and did not hold any grudge against her. "Elle is really a great artist, she's a great girl. And she's been going through a lot of hard things lately, and she just had a little too much to drink," Parton told Extra. "So let's just forgive that and forget it and move on, 'cuz she felt worse than anybody ever could."

While King sings that she was "banned from the Grand Ole Opry," the alleged ban has not been confirmed. It seems like Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Hank Williams, among others, may have a potential recruit for their "Opry-Banned" club. Only time will tell.
