Entertainment awards are highly competitive. Sometimes, the reason an honor like a CMA award goes to one person and not to another can be hard to figure out. It can be a tough choice when all the nominees are qualified and worthy. In 2006, Faith Hill was in the running for the CMA award for Female Vocalist of the Year. Per People, the other artists who were also nominated included Carrie Underwood, Martina McBride, Gretchen Wilson, and Sara Evans.

When the winner was announced, it was not Hill's name that was called. Underwood, a year past famously winning American Idol, landed the prestigious prize. Then the real drama started. Per the outlet, Hill seemed to flip after she wasn't invited up to the stage to accept the accolade. She was shown on national IV "flailing her arms and apparently shouting 'What?' before walking out of camera range." Was the "There You'll Be" singer in the midst of a temper tantrum because she lost?
Hill Vehemently Denied Being in a Jealous Snit
This was pretty embarrassing for the popular country music star. Everybody usually tries to lose with grace and dignity, even though it hurts. Also, Hill probably had no inkling that she was on camera at that uncomfortable instant. Of course, people were buzzing about the incident afterwards. She responded in an effort to set the record straight.
Her publicist issued a brief explanatory statement on Hill's behalf. Per the outlet, "The idea that I would act disrespectful towards a fellow musician is unimaginable to me. For this to become a focus of attention given the talent gathered is utterly ridiculous. Carrie is a talented and deserving female vocalist of the year."
Her Manager Jumped in To Calm the Situation
Hill's manager, Gary Borman, backed her up fully. He attributed what seemed to be her distress to "being playful." He said, "I've worked with Faith for many years now, and the idea that she would ever insult or undermine another artist, let alone another human being's success, is absolutely preposterous. Those who know her know that she's incapable of such actions. She was being playful while the nominations were being read and playful after."
For her part, Underwood was reportedly weepy and stunned by her big win. Per the outlet, she "said that two years ago she was just somebody who stayed home and watched the ceremony."
