I can't believe I almost watched former American Idol judge Katy Perry die. (No, not really). (She didn't almost die, and I also wasn't there).

But I did see the videos on TikTok, and I'm sure you did too.
She had a pretty public mechanical malfunction with one of her flying props. Which is not only super embarrassing, but I'm sure was also super scary.
What is also crazy to me is that this isn't the first flying failure in the past couple of weeks. Beyoncé had a similar incident not so long ago.
Maybe we keep our feet on the ground for a little while?
Former 'American Idol' Judge Falling From The Sky?
It is fantastically wild to me that these mechanical props can just happen. It's the main reason I don't think I'll ever skydive. It would be when the one time I go up that the parachute malfunctions and I don't do anything ever again.
Luckily, this time everything was fine.
The American Idol judge, pop icon (and if you ask her, recent astronaut) dropped a couple of feet while riding a giant butterfly over the crowd. This was at her most recent show in San Francisco, and you can see the panic in her eyes.
Luckily, no 'California Girls' were hurt in the making of this performance.
Houston, We Have A Malfunction
What impressed me the most about this entire situation was how amazingly the former American Idol handled herself. Even though she dropped quite a distance while not really strapped in.
You can definitely feel the panic in her body language, though, as it falls, and she shoots an upward look afterwards.
Naturally, everyone had their own opinion on the situation afterwards. Some people had some amazing comedic responses.
One of my favorite comments on TikTok was, "She's an astronaut she can deal with a little turbulence." Which is objectively a hilarious comment to leave.
Other commentors were a little more empathetic to the fright she must've experienced. With one user commenting, "She handled it like a pro, barely skipped a beat, but it should've never happened."
Which is true. There is no reason why artists have to be doing all that. Plus, I'm not sure how this equipment wasn't triple-checked before it was launched.
