‘Full House’ Star Dave Coulier Learned He Was Cancer Free Same Day Grandson Was Born

The good news keeps coming in for Dave Coulier. He had been battling Stage 3 non Hodgkin Lymphoma for the longest time, to the point where he felt like things were looking pretty sour. However, he's happier than ever now that he appears to be on the other side of it. To make matters even better, Coulier learned he was a grandfather the same day he got his life changing news.

Recently, Dave sat down for an episode of the How Rude, Tanneritos! podcast. There, the 'Uncle Joey' character describes the overwhelming emotions upon learning he's officially a grandfather. "I got the good news the day the baby was born," Coulier says. "So I heard the news and I was so excited, and then Luc called us and he said, 'Hey, the baby just was born.' And so, I mean, it was an amazing day. It was really amazing, you know? So we were like, 'Oh, this is just too much!'"

In silly, embarrassing granddad fashion, he also killed the moment trying to joke around upon the baby's birth. "Everybody was teary-eyed and everything and texting when the baby was born - and I said, 'I cannot wait to see that kid's expression on his face after he pulls my finger for the first time,'" Dave recalls. "And there was just like, no one responded. It's like, 'Okay. I killed the moment.'"

This starkly contrasts from the dark headspace he was in while going through chemotherapy. While speaking with Parade Magazine, his wife remembers harrowing conversations she had with Coulier. By the 5th session, he was prepared for the worst. "After [the fifth round of] chemo, he was like, 'I don't know if I could do this again,'" she recounts of Dave. "He was like, 'I'm prepared either way. If I die, I die. And if I can stay here, great. I want to.' Those conversations were obviously so tough."
