It has been a number of months since Gene Hackman was found dead, with his wife, in his home. The two of them were found on February 26th, apparently having died a few days before. An investigation was made, and the cause baffled investigators for some time.

However, it emerged that the two of them had died at separate times. Initially, Betsy had passed away, with Gene living with her dead body for more than a week. The investigation determined that she passed away around February 11 or 12. She reportedly died of hantavirus brought on by rodents in the property.

Gene Hackman passed away around the 17th or 18th, according to the report. He died of heart disease. According to a medical examiner, he was in very bad health and suffering from the later stages of Alzheimer's. He lived with his wife's dead body for around a week before he passed away.

However, now, the investigation is over, and his family was able to lay Gene Hackman and his wife to rest.

A Small Memorial For Gene And Betsy Hackman

The small service was held in Santa Fe and attended by Gene's three children, Christopher and daughters Elizabeth and Leslie. It was a private affair and kept to a minimum. It had been reported that toward the end of his life, Gene had little contact with his family.

He had previously lamented that, throughout his life, he had little time for his family. His constant obligations to his career kept him from home, and he regretted the alienation. This being said, his will didn't include any of them. His fortune was left to his also-deceased second wife, Betsy.

Gene Hackman had been in very bad health toward the end of his life. He was removed from the public eye and clearly wasn't of sound mind. However, his legacy will live on in the many incredible roles he played throughout his life. Few have ever done it better.
