I have always said that a liquor than needs to attach a gimmick to it is the company selling an inferior drink. George Clooney has only proven me right and is now being sued over charging premium prices for low-quality tequila.

Good quality liquor doesn't need a fancy bottle or a celebrity endorsement. The high standard speaks for itself. But when a distillery does make a bad batch, they often recruit a celebrity to attach their name to it. It's an emperor's new clothes situation, where their fame convinces people that the swill in the bottle is worth drinking.
Now, George Clooney, or his Tequila at least, is the subject of a lawsuit that claims they have been selling at inferior quality to what's advertised. Both Casamigos and Don Julios have been accused of this unforgivable and heinous crime.
Tequila can come in many qualities. However, premium quality stuff is made with only 100% Blue Weber agave. This creates the smoothest, wildest, and most beautiful tequila. Once you've tried it, it's hard to go back to the cheaper version, known as Mixtos.
Mixtos only requires about 51% agave sugar content. The rest comes from cheaper sources such as sugar cane. This not only results in a harsher, less pure taste but also a much more savage hangover. Trust me. The lawsuit is claiming that the tequila company George Clooney made so famous was not selling premium liquor, and was instead selling cheap swill.
George Clooney's Casamigos and Don Julio Tequila Companies Deny Poor Quality Claims
The lawsuit against the tequila brand George Clooney made famous claims that lab tests have proven that a significant amount of the drink is made with cane sugar. Four companies are involved in the lawsuit, each seeking $5 million. However, Diageo, the company that owns both brands, refutes the claim.
"These claims of adulteration are outrageous and categorically false; Don Julio and Casamigos tequilas are crafted from 100% Blue Weber Agave and are in full compliance with the official tequila standard ... We look forward to vigorously defending the quality and integrity of our Tequilas in court," a spokesperson said.
George Clooney has not spoken about the allegations of his alleged poor-quality tequila yet. I doubt he had any hand in blending it anyway, probably just got a fat payout and lifetime supply of allegedly low-quality tequila instead.
