Jean Godchaux Is the Second Member of The Grateful Dead To Pass Away
Jean Godchaux's passing comes just months after former bandmate Phil Lesh, who died in October 2024. The founding bassist was 84 at the time of his passing. Lesh had faced a number of health issues in the years leading to his death, including battles with prostate and bladder cancer.
The loss of both Lesh and Godchaux-MacKay within such a short timeframe is a blow to Grateful Dead fans worldwide. Nevertheless, it's worth remembering that the band's legacy in American rock remains unshaken. It will be kept alive by the millions who continue to celebrate their music and unique sound.
