Many Megan Moroney fans may know her from her sophomore album Am I Okay?. The project not only brought her a second No. 1, but also earned her a nomination for Album of the Year. What fans may not know is that when Moroney went to record the project, she was getting over a breakup. Ironically, while recording the title track, she was actually in tears over the person who inspired it.

She told CMT, "So funny story, me and that guy had broken up the day before I went to sing vocals. He was love bombing me. I was literally crying while I was singing these vocals, which is crazy to look back and think that I almost didn't put the song out because I was like, I'm so sad right now." She shared that at the time, she wasn't really sure how she was going to get through the session, or even put the album out in general.
Moroney shared, "How am I gonna sing this song about this guy being so great, like, name a whole album after it, name a whole tour after it, like, how am I gonna get through this? And I'm here to tell everyone I got through it. I got over it, and now when I think of the song, it's kind of like a song of me and my fans and where I'm at in life, just being happy and wanting to stay."
Moroney Shares That Her Next Album Is "93% Done"
In October, Moroney concluded the main leg of her Am I Okay? Tour, her headline show, with which she broke various attendance records all around the US. She sold-out shows at iconic venues like the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles, Radio City Music Hall, and The Pinnacle. Not only was the tour a critical and commercial success, but it also introduced a wider audience to Moroney's music. This means that even more ears are focused on Moroney, waiting for her to announce that next era of music.
Hinting at new music to come, Moroney has shared that her next album is about "93% done" as of now. She told CMT, "On my end, it's done. But then it takes a lot. It's gotta get mixed, it's gotta get mastered, it takes a whole thing. But I am happy that on my part, it's 100% done. On everyone else's part, if it was 80% done before, maybe it's 93%. That feels right."
Wanting to contrast slightly from the "emo-cowgirlness" of Am I Okay? Moroney has hinted that this next project will contain slightly happier themes. She shared that the album is "a lot happier than what you would expect," but also her "best work" so far. Even though we love Am I Okay?, we can't wait to see a new side to Moroney. Especially now that she is okay, and maybe even doing a little bit better than that.
