The show, The ReidOut, was one of the first to go as MSNBC began its attempts to restructure. Her outspoken left-wing politics didn't align with the show's outlook, and they needed to save their ratings. The contrarian host had to go.

Joy Reid, along with her staff, was let go, requiring a replacement asap. Her staffers, though, were told they had until April to find a new role. According to MSNBC, there are numerous positions opening up, and her ex-staff were encouraged to apply and given priority.

But her slot needed to be filled, and quickly. It appears that MSNBC may have had something lined up already. The Joy Reid show is being replaced by Michael Steele, Alicia Menendez, and Symone Sanders-Townsend, who previously hosted The Weekend.

Furthermore, MSNBC will be taking on Eugene Daniels to take the weekend spot left vacant by the Joy Reid replacement hosts.

Big Step Up For Joy Reid Replacement Daniels

The move to replace Joy Reid is part of a major reshuffle for MSNBC. Their viewership has taken a huge hit recently. From a previous high of 1.4 million daytime and almost 3 million primetime viewers daily in 2001, they have fallen to 613,000 and 1 million viewers.

But this has left a door open for Eugene Daniels. Recently, he has become somewhat of a rising star on the show. He first took a step into politics as a correspondent for Politico in 2018. From there, he moved from strength to strength, specifically working as a White House correspondent.

In 2021, Daniels was named as an MSNBC contributor, often appearing on their show during the 2024 elections. His unique and bold demeanor and style made him stand out among the many other correspondents at the time.

Now, he has been named as the Joy Reid replacement on the network. He has announced his departure from Politico. Now, he has joined MSNBC full-time as the new host of The Weekend. This new move in the MSNBC reshuffle places three people of colour in a prime time slot.
