Is Howard Stern's Show Coming to an End Soon on SiriusXM?

Famous shock jock Howard Stern's days at SiriusXM may be numbered. That is according to a report from insideradio.com via The U.S. Sun. Per the outlet, "Sources told The U.S. Sun that the groundbreaking broadcaster is not expected to return when his current five-year contract expires this fall."

There seems to be a couple of reasons for the potential non-renewal of his contract. One is the whopping amount of money that Stern allegedly gets. An anonymous source said, "'Sirius and Stern are never going to meet on the money he is going to want...it's no longer worth the investment' to keep paying the reported $100 million-a-year salary."

Someone else shared that Stern getting a salary of that magnitude again was not a realistic possibility. In the ever-changing media landscape, the potential demise of Stern's show may be yet another milestone on the horizon.

Another Possible Sticking Point is the Content of Stern's Program

Stern has never shied away from courting controversy on the air. His frank stance regarding President Donald Trump and interviews with political figures such as former VP and Democratic presidential hopeful Kamala Harris may have made Stern a tricky commodity. "If Sirius isn't going to give Stern a good offer, I don't think it would have anything to do with his ratings, It's more likely everything to do with the political climate," the source confided.

Of President Trump, Stern reportedly said last year per Fox News, "I don't agree with Trump politically, I don't think he should be anywhere near the White House. I don't hate the guy. I hate the people who vote for him...I'll be honest with you, I have no respect for you."

The guy does not mince words, that is for sure!

Stern Has Been Successful on SiriusXM for Almost Two Decades

There is no question that Stern, 71, has done extremely well on SiriusXM beginning in 2006. Although his freewheeling "shock jock" persona has calmed down a bit, he morphed into a skilled celeb questioner. Stern gets meaty interviews with people like former Friends star Courteney Cox, flamboyant singer and actress Lady Gaga, and rock legend Bruce Springsteen.
