It's not often that anyone with real, genuine talent turns up on a show like American Idol. Usually, it's reserved for easy industry plants that can pull in a few viewers and then get dumped by the show a year or two later. This is why I was absolutely amazed to see someone sing the 'Diva Dance' perfectly. She confidently displayed an opera voice that should only be reserved for the stage, not American Idol.

I remember hearing 'Diva Dance' for the first time in The Fifth Element. The blue-haired lady sang the futuristic opera in a way that I swore had to be electronically manipulated. But, no. It was originally performed by Inva Mula and was entirely her own voice.
I have been obsessed with her vocal control ever since. I thought she must be one of the very few that could do it. So, seeing an opera singer come on stage and hit every incredible note without a waver on American Idol was more than just a surprise.
I was shocked that an opera singer of her caliber had to lower herself to a desperate hack talent show like America Idol. I think the show hosts were too. But, as she explained before she went out there, "I'm going to be honest today, opera is not in the best place right now."
Opera Singer Is Overqualified
Really, American Idol isn't a place for opera. It's a place to produce another watchable, run-of-the-mill, pop star who becomes famous for five minutes and then drifts into obscure mediocrity. Someone with pipes like opera singer Anna Aistova belongs somewhere better.
After a day of wading through the early stages slop, someone singing opera like that on American Idol silenced the room. It was hard enough to believe that 'Diva Dance' was real when I watched it on a screen. I can only imagine how incredible it must have been live.
However, the three judges knew she wouldn't fit the cookie-cutter shape they were looking for. "I don't know where it fits in the scope of this competition, so it's a no for me. But it's not because you're not awesome — because you are," Carrie Underwood told the opera singer. "I can't do none of that.
Hopefully, the russian opera singer caught someone's eye with her American Idol audition. She deserves a crowd.
