Internet Calls Out Selena Gomez Over Deportation Tears

The deportation of millions of immigrants from the US is nothing new with the highest rate occurring during Obama's reign. However, due to the nature of the internet, the recent push for deportation has got the internet talking again. Selena Gomez has publicly shed tears about the situation, but the internet isn't sympathetic.

As Trump vows to strengthen the Southern border, the conversation has turned to deportation. Of course, this has been going on in the US for decades but has become a hot-button issue in recent years. Selena Gomez has shown how she feels about it, crying tears over the recent deportations. Gomez has ties to the illegal immigrant community. In a previous interview, she revealed her own aunt came to the country illegally. She also produced the Netflix documentary Living Undocumented as well.

People in the comments aren't convinced though by her emotional display.

Selena Gomez Called Out For Virtue Signaling Tears

Selena Gomez's father is Mexican, and her mother is US American. She was born in Texas, but associates herself, in part, with her Mexican heritage. This is why she calls the deported people "her people." The tears of Selena Gomez are for the people she considered her kin.

Continuing, she says that she doesn't understand and that she will do whatever she can to help. I am sure she could use some of her $1.3 billion net worth to set up support funds or networks for people facing legal battles. But I digress. Either way, the internet is not impressed by the tears she so publicly sheds.

"How many can she fit in her multimillion-dollar mansion," one X commenter jabs. "When she says "my people" she means her household help," another notes. Selena Gomez is willing to shed tears, but not share wealth seems to be the sentiment.

Tapping into a crisis because it is trending on social media is not something to be celebrated. It comes across as insincere and desperate.
