In the past, Tom Cruise has spoken about his fears of getting plastic surgery. But, it looks like his vanity has gotten the best of him, again. He has had disasters in the past with surgery that left his head looking like a pumpkin. This warned him off for a little while, but Tom Cruise's face during his Super Bowl appearance has people asking if he's been back on the slab.
Watching the brief footage he appears in during his segment, it's obvious what has got people talking. Cruise is 62, and has undergone a few surgeries to avoid the inevitable. He's just another celebrity persuaded to slice themselves rather than look their age. But this time around, Tom Cruise's face is totally different.
Honestly, when I first watched it, I thought it might be CGI. Then, perhaps, that he is wearing one of the famed Mission Impossible deus ex machina masks. But, no, apparently this is just how he looks now. His skin looks tight-tight-tight.

The video is a little weird, bordering on the uncanny valley. Sure, my eyes are telling me that is Tom Cruise's face and body, but something in my mind is screaming that it isn't. Whether it is AI, CGI, or just someone wearing Cruise's skin is anyone's guess.
I mean, I think Tom Cruise is a total bada--. I love his movies, his long career featuring some of the best action films of all time, and his insistence on doing his own stunts. But, I can't deny that he is looking a little unfamiliar in this shot.
But, compared to some of his previous plastic surgery disasters, this one seems to have gone pretty well. It does look like he's pulled his face skin back and clipped it behind his head with bulldog clips, but at least he doesn't look like a balloon.
He will always be a hero in my eyes. I just wish he was as brave about letting himself age as he is about jumping off buildings and parachuting out of planes. Nature is the scariest foe of all for Tom Cruise's face.
