According to USA Today the title of best town in the South belongs to Starkville, Mississippi. While Starkville used to be mainly a college town it has recently been expanding its horizons. According to Daily Mail, it has been gaining popularity for many reasons. Some of those reasons include lower costs of living, "a bustling downtown, and nearby nature preserves for hiking and birdwatching."
In addition, this small town has been known to feature charming streets, rich history, and warm southern hospitality. With all of that going for it who wouldn't want to visit? Not to mention this isn't Starkville's first time at the top of the list. Last year it was also named best small town in the South. That was in part to its incredible cuisine and booming creative arts spaces.
The town has undergone some major construction, particularly in the sense of apartment buildings.
