Jacquie Roar Compares Her Time On 'The Voice' And 'American Idol' — One Was "Absolutely Miserable"

Jacquie Roar has shared what it was like to be on The Voice and American Idol having been on both, and the difference between the two shows is clear as day.

The singer has been on both singing competitions. She hit American Idol for Season 13 in 2014. Years later, she struck The Voice for its 24th season in 2023. Having been to both competitions, she can tell us exactly how both shows compare. And it isn't all sunshine and rainbows for one of them.

Roar visited the Curious Goldfish podcast, where she quickly got into dishing the deets of the shows.

And it turns out that American Idol treated her "like crap."

Before she got into it, she explained that she doesn't know what American Idol is like now, as it has been over ten years. But at the time, she had a horrible experience.

Jacquie Roar Explains Her Time On Both Singing Competitions

"I was absolutely miserable at American Idol," she said. "They treated me like crap They treated all the contestants crap."

"And you could tell which ones were the favorites that they wanted in the top," she reflected. It's always been rumored that singing competitions rig their competitions, and if Roar's experience is anything to go by, it's sounding like American Idol at least used to.

Apparently, the staff were "mean" to the contestants and were always ordering them about and acting incredibly bossy and rude.

In complete contrast, she had a wonderful time on The Voice.

"The Voice was absolutely the most awesome experience from start to finish," she said. The staff were very "informative" and always made sure the contestants were doing okay. The environment was good enough for all the contestants to feel "lively, energetic, [and] happy."

Although that's exactly the atmosphere I'd expect from The Voice, I had no idea the American Idol team were so sharp in their handling of the singers.

Again, please bear in mind that this is an account from over ten years ago. I'm sure the atmosphere behind-the-scenes would have improved a great deal. I wonder if any more recent contestants will come forward with their experience.

I'd love to hear from them.
