The rocker was very upfront about the reason he did the ITV edition of The Masked Singer. John Lydon was a guest on This Morning, and he explained his motivation. He also described the physical toll that donning the massive Yak costume took on his body.

Lydon said, "You cannot sing in an outfit like that, it's so hot and heavy. I put my shoulder out, I put my back out."

As for why he agreed to participate, he said to program hosts Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard, "Fun, firstly. But mostly the money." Lydon added, "Money has now paid for us [his band Public Image Ltd] to go and record in Portugal for a solid month and a nice little holiday afterwards."

Fans Were Totally Gobsmacked and They Loved the Fun

Viewers were really caught off-guard when they leaned the Yak's identity. They loved it, though. The comments they left on Masked Singer's Instagram prove that people were tickled to see the famed punk rocker having a blast on TV. The caption was "Our amazing Yak is...JOHN LYDON!!!" What a spectacular attention-getting coup for the show to have him. It certainly upped The Masked Singer's popularity.
