Jelly Roll's been on a "roll" in more ways than one. Not only has the country singer lost over 200 pounds, but he's also starting to embrace a new look, one that involves him shaving off all of his facial hair for the first time in a decade. On November 13, his wife, Bunnie Xo, gave fans a heads-up about the transformation on Instagram.
"You guys, I have been with my husband for going on 10 years now, [and] I have never seen this man without his facial hair. Not one freaking time," she told fans as Jelly shaved his face off camera. "My husband, in honor of his shoot that he did today, is going to shave off his beard completely, because now that he's so skinny — look at that freaking jawline — we wanna see that jawline, right, ladies?"
Now, Jelly Roll has given fans a peek at his new look, and a new problem has emerged. While his jawline looks awfully snatched, fans are worry that this means other changes are needed. For example, a lot of them don't really feel like the name "Jelly Roll" fits him anymore.
In a post on
"Jellyroll Light? Sugar-free Jellyroll? Or something wholly different, like Lettuce Wrap?"
"OzempicRolled'
"Turkey Roll...at least through Thanksgiving."
"That's my guy Springroll. Looking good brother."
So far, nothing really seems to roll off the tongue quite like Jelly Roll does, but we'll keep workshopping it.
Jelly Roll Has Gone by 'Jelly Roll' Since He Was a Boy
Jelly Roll, whose real name is Jason DeFord, has gone by "Jelly Roll" since he was a little kid. He told the Bobby Bones Show, "Been fat my whole life. I spent the next 30 years trying to grow into the name, I think I've done it." He shared, "I obviously look the part...It just stuck."
The name fit so well that one of his classmates started calling him "Jelly Roll" on accident. That kid went by the nickname "One-Arm Clay." "One Arm Clay was like, We should call you Jelly Roll,' I'm One Arm Clay, and you'll be Jelly Roll,'" the singer reminisced. "I was like, 'My mama calls me Jelly Roll.' Then once the high school starts calling you something, that's the kit and caboodle."
Even though the name doesn't make sense it the way it used to, I personally can't imagine Jelly Roll being called anything else. Fans might be looking for a new name for the singer, but I think we should opt to keep it as is. But, If he does decide to change it, "Spring Roll" has my vote of confidence.
