The Mayor of Kingstown star had a miserable New Year's Day after being run over by his 14,000-pound snow plow. Renner's injuries were so severe that he even penned a goodbye letter to his family in case he didn't survive. In a recent interview with People, Renner shared an excerpt about the accident from his upcoming memoir, My Next Breath. He reportedly goes into 'excruciating detail' about his injuries. Renner also talks about his 35 broken bones and how he saw "my left eye with my right eye."
"I'm not haunted by the incident. Not too often anyway, by the images, the sounds. But I am reminded of my new reality, and it is wonderfully positive. I didn't die," the actor says.
When the accident occurred, Renner was trying to stop the snow plow from hitting his nephew, Alex. He told People that they listened to the audiobook of his memoir together. "Actually, we did listen to the book together, which was pretty intense, but we never really tried to push this under anything. If I get better, then he'll get better. I put images in that kid's head he cannot unsee, so I'm going to do anything I can to get better. So I'm healing him, he heals me. It's a beautiful thing."
Renner Described His Daughter As His "Fuel To Get Better"
The Hurt Locker actor also told the outlet that his daughter was his "fuel to get better." He explained that she was scared and felt helpless, so he gave her things to do. Renner reportedly told his daughter, "You have to be my arms and be my legs. You have to help daddy now. You've got to do this and that, but I promise if you wait for me, I'll get better."
Jeremy Renner's recovery has been nothing short of miraculous, and he has remained open about the incident since it happened. He received a standing ovation at the 2024 People's Choice Awards and has a role in the upcoming Wake Up Dead Man movie.
