If you follow American Idol, then you know that the season-ending finale is a glittering gala that features performances from various stars. Last night's final Idol show was no exception. Among the singers taking to the stage was Jessica Simpson, 44. Unfortunately, her appearance was greeted with some pointedly negative comments from fans. Per nypost.com, "The singer was slammed as she performed on TV for the first time in 15 years during the ABC show's finale episode over the weekend."

Simpson joined erstwhile contestant Josh King for her cover of a 1960s hit from Nancy Sinatra, "These Boots Are Made For Walking." She sang another tune as well, the bluesy "Blame Me." Simpson wore a shiny, form-fitting silver gown that added a hint of glamour. She also sported a different hair color that was a more subdued shade of blonde than she typically wears.
Fans Let Loose About Simpson's Performance - And Did Not Hold Back
The comments people posted on YouTube were decidedly mixed. Folks either loved Simpson or bluntly panned her performance. Sincerity plus some sniping too.
"Josh deserved better than this"
"Lip Filler Industry is booming"
"I love her but she consistently makes me uncomfortable when she performs"
"I'm..what just happened"
"People should give her a break she hasn't performed in 15 years... stop destroying her confidendence I think she did well"
"I am not sure you guys saw the same video I did. She was not good and looked nothing like her from the past . But everyone is entitled to their opinion. I wish her well"
"Hearing tests for many in this section is needed"
She Has Not Yet Reacted To The Remarks About Her 'Idol' Appearance
Jessica Simpson's return to performing seems to be connected to her split from husband Eric Johnson. The two wed in 2014. They have two daughters and a son ranging in age from 13 to 6. Simpson was previously married to Nick Lachey from 2002 to 2006.
Simpson has had her share of very public highs and lows in her personal life and in the music business. Hopefully she is now on a steadily upward trajectory.
