This year, hip-hop singer Jessie Murph has taken over the charts and over our hearts with her WorldWide Hysteria Tour. Murph first became notorious for stunts like her 1965 music video - especially that one clip that got everyone talking. But when she's not sparking controversy, she's establishing herself as a force to be reckoned with. At this point, we can't help but get on the hype train.

Talking with People, the 21-year-old admitted that her journey hasn't been easy, but connecting with fans makes it worthwhile. She shared, "I was struggling a lot behind the scenes, but walking out on stage every night to crowds of people who were feeling the same way I was feeling and singing these songs together with me healed me in ways I could have never imagined. I will never take these moments for granted." The singer just wrapped up the U.S. and European legs of her world tour.
Jessie Murph Didn't Think She Deserved That ACM Nomination
Murph, who grew up in Alabama, began gaining a fan base online when she was just 15. Through TikTok, she became known for her raspy vocals, which have allowed her to achieve success in various genres, including country music. Over the years, Murph has received scrutiny for not being "country enough" even though she herself doesn't really consider her music country at all.
Even with collaborations with artists like Koe Wetzel and Jelly Roll in her discography, Murph admitted on the Zach Sang show that she didn't really feel tied to a specific genre. After being nominated for an ACM in March, she had some things to say.
I wouldn't look at me and be like, 'That's a country artist.' I don't know that I deserved to be in that category. I feel like there's other country artists that maybe deserved to have that spot." Ultimately, the award went to Ella Langley for Best New Artist. Murph continued, "I love mixing genres and I think that I'll always do it... I don't like the thought of boxing myself in to express myself."
At least lately, it seems like she's doing something right. Her album, Sex Hysteria, currently has over 355 million streams on Spotify alone, with her song "Blue Strips" amassing 160 million singlehandedly. The song started trending on TikTok in April of this year.
In November, Jessie Murph will continue on her Worldwide Hysteria Tour, making stops in Australia and New Zealand.
