"We are aware of the situation involving Kris Boyd and will have no further comment at this time," a Jets representative told the New York Post.
According to the Post, Boyd was shot in the abdomen following a dispute that escalated into violence. The issue arose outside of Sei Less restaurant. He is now in critical care, as he clings to life following the incident.
This is Boyd's first year with the Jets, having signed a $1.6 million contract with the franchise ahead of the season. He's currently listed on the team's injury reserves following the incident. The Post also noted that currently, there have been no arrests following the shooting, although an investigation is ongoing.
According to ABC Eyewitness News, police are searching for the driver of a blue BMW in connection with the incident. Boyd was taken to Bellevue Hospital.
The Jets Are Aware of the Incident Involving Kris Boyd
NFL Network Insider Mike Garafolo noted that the Jets are aware of the incident but currently have no comment on the situation.
"The team is aware of the situation but has no further comment at this point," Garafolo reported via X, formerly known as Twitter.
We're unlikely to hear from the team, Boyd's representatives, or the authorities while the investigation continues.
Boyd has played in 81 regular-season games during his career, starting six. He has played for the Minnesota Vikings, Arizona Cardinals, Houston Texans, and now the Jets. Boyd has totaled 79 solo tackles, 26 assisted tackles, and three tackles for a loss during his career. He hasn't taken to the field for the Jets since signing with them ahead of the season.
For now, all any of us can do is pray that Boyd has a speedy recovery. After all, the police must be given the room they need to continue finding the facts on what led to the shooting. Which, of course, should help lead to the perpetrator.
Well wishes from around the NFL have already begun pouring in, and that will likely continue over the coming days.
