John Goodman Says He Hasn't Heard From Roseanne Barr in Years

The Conners weren't just fractured on TV, they were fractured in real life too. Roseanne Barr's controversial, racially charged tweets saw her swiftly dismissed from her own show. Instead, the network focused their efforts on John Goodman and the larger Conner family. Clearly, the show didn't miss a beat and even ended on its own terms, rare for a show missing its central figure. Moreover, due to her problematic nature, it seems like no one wants anything to do with her. This includes her TV partner in crime too.

Recently, Goodman spoke with The Hollywood Reporter, where he reflects on his career in TV and film throughout the years. There, he admits that he hasn't spoken to Roseanne Barr "for about seven or eight years." Additionally, it seems like the tension is going to remain there too. He doesn't seem like he wants any parts and John argues she probably doesn't want to deal with him either. "I'd rather doubt if she wants to talk to me," he shrugs.

Despite all of this, he does cop to having incredible chemistry with the controversial comedian. Back in the day, they had fun and he values that, even if circumstances have drastically changed. "We hit it off from jump street. She made me laugh, and I made her laugh, and wow, it was so much fun," Goodman recalls. "We'd get so many viewers for the show back then — 20, 30 million people. Things are so different now, but it was a special time."

The Conners could've theoretically brought in Roseanne before the show wrapped up. Ultimately, and probably rightfully, they decided against it. Instead, they finish off with Goodman and co. signing off for the final time. This doesn't mean Roseanne and her family wasn't particularly bitter about it. "We don't care about cheap knockoffs," her son declares. "We support the real brands and focus on what matters to Americans."
