Actors seem to love working with Taylor Sheridan. The vibe just seems right every time one of his cast members talk about the creative process with him. They all feel comfortable enough expressing how they feel about the direction of their characters too. It's no wonder so many heavy hitters are jumping on board for his projects. This is the case for Jon Hamm, who has had his fair share of great projects like Mad Men on his resume. Evidently, he respects Sheridan so much, he jumped on board for Landman before a script was ever made.

Recently, Hamm spoke at the Sundance Film Festival, captured by Entertainment Weekly. There, he dishes on his experience working with Taylor Sheridan on his latest show Landman. Interestingly, this idea's been brewing since 2016 when the Yellowstone creator approached him for it. Jon had no idea what he was signing up for. All he had was the sales pitch and the leading man. Evidently, that was plenty.
Jon Hamm Jumped on Board With Taylor Sheridan for Landman Before It Even Had a Script
"Nine years later, from our first meeting at Sundance, Taylor had something for me, and it was Landman," Jon reveals. "I signed onto this project with no script — nothing but the idea of what it was going to be — and Billy Bob Thornton. And I said, 'Sure I'm in! Yes, sir, I'll do that.'... That man is a national treasure of — what nation, I do not know!"
In a separate interview on the Rich Eisen Show, Jon Hamm dishes on how breezy it is during casting and auditioning. "He has this massive ranch down in West Texas in Weatherford - just west of Fort Worth. You go down there and he goes, 'This is what I'm thinking, this is what I want to do. What do you think?' And you go, 'Great, yeah, I want to do that.' That's it. It's the greatest audition process ever," Hamm says.
You don't have to sit in a room and wait somewhere in Studio City and look at nine guys that look like you. He just goes, 'I want you, come down here, let's talk about it and then we'll do the show,'" Jon continues.
