Journey Drummer Deen Castronovo Says Drum Was On Fire For Several Songs After Stage Caught Ablaze

For Deen Castronovo of Journey, even when the drums are on fire, the show must go on. As told by the Journey drummer, there had been a fire blazing underneath his drum kit for quite some time.

On March 14th fans were put out by the premature end to Journeys Houston Livestock Show. After only five songs, the band rushed off stage, and the crew appeared with fire extinguishers. A short time later, the band returned apologizing. The show was over, and the "unforeseen electrical incident under the stage area" was to blame.

The crowd was evacuated, and there was no more music for the evening. Understandably, people who had paid for their tickets were pretty upset. There are no more dates planned at the moment, and ticket holders hardly got a show.

Deen Castronovo Adresses Drum Fire

There wasn't much of an explanation given to the disgruntled fans, but Castronovo took to Instagram to let people know what really went on. "Hey, Houston! An act of God tonight! Fire broke out underneath the stage right under my drum riser!?? I was literally on fire for 4 ½ songs, all the power cables melted, and the show was a BUST! That doesn't mean we won't be back soon, because we love you all—and WE WILL RETURN! #dontstopbelievin God bless you all!"

But, despite their prematurely canceled show, fans still show their support. They may be upset, but they care more about the health of the drummer and his kit. "Brother, Deen, I'm so glad y'all are ok. Hope it didn't mess up anything on the new kit," one user comments.

It is pretty wild that Castronovo was able to play so long with a fire under his drum kit. He must have been able to smell it. It didn't seem to put the musician off though, and he was able to play five tracks with the heat under his seat.

Sadly, there hasn't been any announcement as to when they will return. Hopefully, the people who paid to see them will be given some kind of discount when they return to the stage.
