Artificial Intelligence has been on a worrying rise in the past many months. It's a pressing problem that's been pressing on the arts and every industry going. Every now and then, however, it's just used to troll the internet.

Both this year and last year, Katy Perry missed out on the Met Gala. She missed the fashion event last night due to her preparing for her Lifetimes Tour. Just because she didn't go doesn't mean we won't see her in attendance, however.

Internet trolls have used AI software to generate very realistic images of Katy Perry attending the Met Gala. The anonymous peddlers of falsehoods had Katy Perry wearing an admittedly cool outfit. It's a blend of a latex 'dress' of sorts and a blazer.

Honestly, it's an outfit I could imagine her wearing. It's just unfortunate that it's clearly AI-generated.

A fan page of the Met Gala posted the generated images of Katy Perry on X. The page credited Getty Images for the photos, although this appears to be a lie. I couldn't find these photos when I checked myself.

Fans Fooled By AI Katy Perry Images, But Not All

The comments are flooded in praise of Katy Perry's 'outfit' at the Met Gala, with some even claiming she was the best dressed. However, there are some who pointed out the images being fake.

A community note has been firmly attached to the post, warning people that Katy Perry didn't attend, and that the photos were likely generated by AI.

"AI slop," wrote one while providing a zoomed-in portion of one of the photos that highlights the outfit strangely merging with her skin. A tell-tale sign of AI-generation.

"What was the PROMPT?" one asked, pointing out how strange the prompt given to the AI must have been.

Others who didn't realize the photos were fake came forward with love and praise.

"This is perfection," wrote one.

"Oh I like this look a lottttt even though I'm not thrilled with her as a person rn I gotta give it to her," another added.

"I actually think this is one of the better outfits," a third chimed in.

It's concerning just how many people were complimenting the fake images. We are entering a dark time, indeed.
