Katy Perry Reveals How She Feels About Carrie Underwood Taking Her Spot on 'American Idol'

Carrie Underwood taking over as a judge for American Idol just feels spiritually correct. Who could better understand what it means to be up on that stage than the country singer? She knows what it means to succeed during the show. Moreover, Underwood realizes what it takes to be able to thrive as an artist outside of the competition. I'm not the only one who feels this way. Katy Perry, the judge Carrie is replacing, feels similarly.

Recently, Perry spoke with PEOPLE Magazine ahead of her Lifetimes tour. There, she talks about her old gig at American Idol, where Carrie Underwood took over her spot at the judging table back in August. Ultimately, Katy feels like there's no one better she could leave the show with now that she's gone. "She was born on that show. I think she knows how to steer it," she says. "She actually truly knows... What it feels like to be in their shoes. We could only metaphorically feel that as judges."

Katy Perry Cosigns Carrie Underwood's Move to American Idol Judging Table

This doesn't exactly mean that Katy Perry will be done with the show forever. She's always liable to come back like nothing even happened. Reports suggest that she's actually interested in coming back sooner than we think. An insider spoke with Life & Style claiming, "American Idol was a safe, steady gig for Katy. Now that her album has flopped, she's scrambling to reclaim her spot at the judges' table. It's a clear sign even she knows her days as a chart topping artist are behind her."

Time will tell how American Idol ticks without Katy Perry as the chemistry piece with Luke Bryan and Lionel Ritchie. I figure Carrie Underwood should fit like a glove, if only because she's not a complete stranger to the format.
